I am a film historian who’s fascinated by overlooked or forgotten stories of cinema’s past, and my work emphasizes cinema history as part of a broader social history where people, places, theaters, and films intersect. My current research focuses on local African American film history, which has culminated in my first book, Movietime Down South, forthcoming from University of Georgia Press in April 2027.
My research interests include American cinema (especially classical Hollywood and African American film), film exhibition, melodrama, stardom, and local film history, and I have published peer-reviewed articles on these subjects in Film History, Post Script, Screen, and Film Criticism.
I received a PhD in English/Film Studies from the University of Florida, and I currently teach cinema history in the art history department at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia.
